Charshangin Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Along the village of Charshanga, E. Turkmenistan. Kh.Kh. Mirkamalov, M.E. Egamberdyev, 1969 (300, p.66). Stratotype on the northern slope of the Kundalyangtau ridge, 3km west of the village of Charshanga. Middle formation of the Kamprek Gr. (51)
Enters the Karakuz Horizon. (452)
Synonym: Charshangin Suite, Чаршангинская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Divided into two subsuites.
Upper - dark and greenish-gray clays with layers of siltstone (aleurolites) and sandstones, at the base with phosphorite pebbles and redeposited (from the lower subsuite). Thickness 10-35m.
Lower - dark gray clays with concretions. Thickness 30-75m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation conformably overlies the Kulkamysh Fm
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the Kallamazar Fm.
Regional extent
Southwest Gissar, Bukhara-Karshinsky district. Corresponds to the upper part of the Karakuz Fm.
